This camera features 23.5mm x 15.6mm (APS-C) X-Trans CMOS 5 HR with primary color filter sensor and effective 40.2MP and X-Processor 5 image processor. It also has image sensor shift mechanism with 5-axis compensation for stabilisation and a focal plane shutter that can provide a maximum shutter speed of 1/180,000 seconds with electric shutter. This camera provides an ISO 125 to 12800 with an extended ISO output of up to 25600. It also features an HD 5.76-million-dot EVF with 0.8x magnification and a 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD monitor that offers shooting mode for convenient settings adjustment and a playback mode for quick playback with just a swipe, drag, pinch, or tap. It allows recording from HD, Full HD, and 4K to DCI4k, 6.2K, and 8K. This camera is powered with NP-W235 Li-ion battery, providing users with approximately 540 frames in normal mode. Its body has heat-dissipating design and has 79 weather-sealed points, resisting dust and moisture. It can also operate in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and as high as 40 degrees Celsius. It measures 136.3mm(W) x 92.9mm(H) x 84.6mm(D) and weighs about 579g.

With the X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, users can record up to 8K/30p movies. It also supports ProRes 4223 HQ, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422 LT. Moreover, its X-Processor 5 can detect a wide range of subject, allowing the camera to accurately track its focus. It has also a focus metre for precise focus adjustment during movie recording.
